Amsterdam is the capital of The Netherlands. It lies on the Amstel river and on the IJsselmeer coast. The hinterland is also interesting: typical dutch landscapes with windmills, canals and old villages. Alas, the legendary castle of Gijsbrecht van Aemstel has gone. But there are some nice castles and stately homes left in the near.
